Just for fun

I don't have much to say about this picture. I snapped it tonight while Isaac was playing with his Daddy.

By the way, before I had kids I swore I would never let them run around in just a diaper. Whatever!

Wolfe 's Neck State Park

We spent Saturday morning at Wolfe's Neck State Park. The scenery is the typical rocky Maine coastline- very pretty. It's a nice park to go to because it's only about 20 minutes from our house. Plus, to get there we had to drive right past the farmer's market, so we could pick up a pie for dessert that night. (It was apple blackberry- yummy!)

Apparently the settings on the camera were messed up for most of the pictures that I took. (Technology is not my friend) so I only have a couple good pictures to share.

Dutch chased a stick into the water a few times- he's a pretty lazy fetcher. Isaac found some pools of water and climbed right in. After we hung out by the water for while we ate lunch and then headed home for nap time.

Isaac in the pool. Every type of water (ith the exception of the bathtub) is called a pool.

Splish splash, who needs a bath?

"More cracker" (He may not be saying it because his mouth is stuffed full, but I know he's thinking it!)

Table Manners

Whenever a group of moms is together talking about their kids, inevitably the subject of feeding/eating will come up. What we feed our kids, how often, if they use utensils, their manners (or lack of them), etc... So, for those of you who are dying to know, here's what I generally add to these conversations.

I normally try to feed Isaac things I think he'll eat, and generally eats at least some of what I give him, although what he likes seems to change on a daily basis. When he's done, or doesn't want the food I've put on his tray, he says "No! Dutch" and then proceeds to throw the food onto the floor. The dog, who has not taken his eyes off Isaac the whole time he's been in the high chair, is in his glory as food is being tossed in every direction. Depending on how close I am (and my mood in general) depends on how much food I allow to be thrown before I step in with the famous words, "looks like your all done!" At this point Dutch is licking the floor and looking for any piece he possibly missed while I am trying to wipe off a screaming toddler's hands and face. And that's it... until it's time to eat again.

Anyway, the other day Isaac was having yogurt for a snack. After I fed him about 1/2 of it, I decided it was time for him to have some lessons in using a spoon. Here's the result:
Things started out pretty good- something for me to brag about during the next food discussion with the moms...

Then Isaac decided to his hand was more efficient than a spoon...

"Forget the spooon and the hand, I'm going straight for the good stuff."
Looks like I have some more work to do!

Silly Boy

Some days Isaac just cracks me up- maybe it's because he's my kid, maybe I don't get out enough... I don't know if anyone else will find this cute, but I did, so I thought I'd share.

Isaac on the lawnmower, which he calls a car. He also likes to "ride" the vacuum, also of course called a car.

Drinking from the sprinkler which he calls "monkey" (By the way, he calls a monkey "moca") Go figure. After he was done drinking he looked up at me and said "juice?" Does that means he wants me to get him some juice, or was he telling me he thinks he's drinking juice?

This is how Isaac woke up this morning. Despite my best efforts, his hair stuck up like this most of the day. He didn't seem to mind.

Yarmouth Clam Festival

The 3rd weekend in July = The Yarmouth Clam Festival. It's quite a big deal here in Southern Maine. On Friday night we went to the parade. It was probably one of the best small-town parades I've ever seen. Here's some highlights:

We didn't have front row seats, but Isaac still had a good view

The big balloon dragon was a big hit with a little boy. He alternated between calling it Melmo and Dutch

Isaac most likely saying "oooh"

This neighborhood "float" appears in every year's parade. It's a bunch of doctors and lawyers pushing broken down lawnmowers around in formation. This year they won 1st prize, which I guess gives you an idea about the type of entries.

Isaac LOVED the mocas (motorcycles). By the way moca is also the way he says monkey.

After the parade we got some bluberry cobbler... yummy!

I love Summer!

I am a warm weather kind of girl, so this past week while everyone has been complaining about the hot (80-90 degree) weather, I have been quite happy. In Maine, you really only get a few short weeks of weather like this, so I am going to enjoy it while it lasts. Plus, it cools off a lot at night, so with a fan I can sleep with no problem.

Since it has been so warm, on Saturday morning we headed out to Popham Beach State Park. We tried to go to this beach last year, but duh, we brought our dog along and no dogs are allowed on the beach, so we had to turn around and head home... But this year we did it right, we left Dutch at home (poor puppy), got there early so we could park in the parking lot (so as to avoid dragging Isaac and our stuff 1/4 mile down the road), and we got there at low tide (due more to luck than planning). Low tide great because the beach was huge and there were shallow pools of water everywhere where Isaac could play without me being afraid of him drowning. All he really needs is a few inches of water and he's happy. Plus since the pools where so shallow they were really warm. He liked to lay down in them and kick his arms and feet. He put on quite a show. We brought his sand toys, but we mostly ended up carrying those around because all he wanted to do was run, fall down, and splash in the water. We ate our lunch on the beach and headed out at about noon. Isaac of course fell asleep in the car...

Is that a good idea?

Matt just told me about the "juice" he made Isaac. It consisted of water, grenadine (marashino cherry juice) and lemon juice. He said he couldn't find any other type of juice in the fridge, plus Isaac really liked it. Yeah..

The Vocabulary of a 15 month old

Isaac "talks" all the time. It's really amazing to see him learning new words on almost a daily basis. Below is a list I tried to make of all the words he says. I admitt, Matt and I are probably the only people who understand half of them, but he's talking none the less.

A is for apple. (this refers to apples and every other fruit that even somewhat resembles an apple)

B is for ball (or anything that is round), book (his favorite right now is Good Dog Carl- it has a picture of a dog and a baby on every page), bike (pronounced almost exactly like book), baby (refering to any non-adult, which has earned some dirty looks from older children), bass (bath) , brush (tooth brush, hairbrush, brooms & the like) , bye-bye, bapa (Grandpa and we think Grandma) and big piece (I laughed so hard when he said this the other day, actually he repeated me saying it to him about something he was eating, now we just say it so he'll repeat, I still laugh just as hard)

C is for car (or anything with wheels including the wheelbarrow), and cracker (he says this about 1000 times a day, as he is constantly on the lookout for more food)

D is for Dutch (every dog is a Dutch, actually most animals are referred to as a Dutch) and dada (this is said almost as often as cracker)

F is for fish (when he sees Elmo's pet fish)

G is for guck (he means duck, and clearly nows how to make the "d" sound... but it's really cute to hear him say guck soI don't get too upset)

H is for hi (usually said as hi, hi, hi, hi... until someone responds to him, he also says things like hi dada, hi Dutch, hi brush...)

J is for juice (his favorite drink)

M is for mama (said very rarely and only in moments of extreme distress), more (usually requesting more food), muck (milk), and Melmo (Elmo and all the other sesame street puppets)

N is for no! (He says this right before he does something he's not supposed to do, such as pull Dutch's tail), and ni-ni (night-night)

O is for ooh (when he sees something he likes) and oh-no!

P is for pool and paci (pacifier, which he would keep in his mouth all day if I let him, sometimes when he sees it in his crib he says "hey paci" )

R is for ride (stroller- his and everyone else's)

S is for shoe (I have no idea how to spell the way he says shoe, but he always says the same thing when he picks up a shoe)

T is for TT (TV)

U is for up (this also means down, out, & open) and uh-oh (he says this a lot too, usually as he's throwing his food onto the floor)

Smile Everyone!

Isaac loves looking at this picture that was taken at yesterday's playgroup. He says baby, baby, baby and claps his hands. I don't think he realizes that he's one of the babies. It was Norah's (the one standing) 1st birthday so we sang "Happy Birthday" and tried to get everyone to keep their hat on. Isaac and Janek kept theirs on for about 3 seconds. The girls and Spencer did a little better- I think 3 pictures were taken- this is the best one, which isn't saying much.

Bummer/4th of July/ Green Grass?

I am bummed because the card reader on our computer seems to be broken -again, so I can't post any pictures, but I figured I'd write anyway, and I'll post the pictures later- hopefully sooner rather than later, but we'll see.

Yesterday (July 4th) went like this:

morning: We went to Bath Herirage Days to walk around, watch the parade, and eat greasy food. The parade was LONG and really uneventful- mostly police cars, fire trucks, old mustangs and corvettes, etc. But the hightlight for Isaac, besides getting to say car, car, car, was Elmo! Isaac loooves Elmo (who he calls Melmo) so he was pretty excited to see him in person.

afternoon: We went back home, mom and Isaac took naps, dad worked in the yard

night: We went to Freeport to get icecream and watch the fireworks that LL Bean puts on. Since they didn't even start until about 2 hours past Isaac's bedtime, it probably wasn't the greatest idea, but we thought he'd like them. He did like them sort of, he said oooh and clapped his hands. But he didn't have much patience left at this point, and the fireworks weren't exactly fast paced, so we ended up leaving after 20 minutes. We saw the grand finale as we were driving away. Isaac fell asleep on the ride home.

Today (July 5) we had the grass seed put down- finally! Maybe we'll actually be able to use the backyard before winter????
